The eighth generation Canter, whose nickname is called Blue Tec Canter was released with the concept ‘Solid & tough’. 6-speed dual clutch transmission ‘DUONIC’, the first application in the world, and 5-speed MT are introduced. The engine is 3L in-line 4 DOHC direction injection diesel turbo engine 4P10, joint-developed by FPT, a Fiat company, Daimler and Mitsubishi FUSO. 4 types of engine with different maximum output and torque were introduced. For these engines, playback control DPF, and urea SCR system ‘BlueTec’ System, the first application for small truck, is introduced. The brake was replaced from predecessor’s twin caliper ventilated disk brake to conventional single caliper ventilated disk brake, and all wheel disk brake system of Brembo, the famous brake supplier for sports cars, was applied to all the models. Besides, the brake override system was applied. This system prioritizes the braking if the accelerator pedal and brake pedal both are stepped at the same time. The seventh Canter’s cab was carried over but interior and exterior design was renovated. Regarding the model grade, 3 grades such as SA, DX and CUSTOM were integrated to 2 grades, Standard and CUSTOM. Canter Guts, the name used as a nickname of 1.5t models since fifth generation Canter, was unified to Canter. In 2010, Canter won the Good Design Award of Japan 2010.

4WD model, which was not available since the cease of production of seventh generation Canter, was revived. Overall low floor full-time 4WD with variable torque distribution center differential and viscous LSD was introduced to all the standard cab models. Also, part-time 4WD with manual free-wheel hub was applied to all the wide cab models. Besides, wide cab model with ultra-long body was added.

Eco hybrid model had full model change. The hybrid system is a parallel type diesel hybrid system, same as predecessor, but the transmission was replaced from 5-speed INOMAT-II to 6-speed DUONIC. The world’s first ’Motor built-in dual clutch transmission for hybrid system’, which ultra-hybrid motor is built into the DUONIC system, is mounted. Regarding lithium ion battery, high energy efficient and high performance laminate type lithium ion battery was applied.

Eco hybrid model won the prize of ‘Irish Green Commercial of the Year 2013’ in Ireland. Eco hybrid model won the prize of ‘Best Energy Efficient Product Award’in Ireland.
