The 3rd generation HIACE H50 - Dec.1982 - Jun.1989
HIACE had the full model change, and switched to 3rd generation. The vertical square 4-headlamp, which was in fashion in U.S. at that time, and metallic 2-tone color were applied, and the difference from commercial vehicle was clarified by gorgeous appearances. The short wheelbase for overall length (standard body) identified the styling of HIACE. In 1985, major facelift such as large size bumper with air dam as well as accessory such power sliding roof with tempered glass was added and the passenger car-like taste was intensified.
Dec. 1982
In Dec. 1982, the 3rd generation HIACE was unveiled and the sales started from Jan. 1983. Only the wagon and van model had full model change at that timing, and production of truck (RH24 / LH24) continued. New 3Y petrol engine called 'Laser Engine' as well as L type diesel succeeded from existing model was mounted and 4-speed AT was applied to gasoline and diesel cars both.
Jan. 1984
The diesel engine mounted to wagon model was replaced with new Laser 2L. Later, the engine was mounted to van model, too.
Aug. 1985
The truck had the full model change, and minor change was implemented to wagon and van. The main change was facelift of appearance. On the other hand, 7-passgenger top grade wagon with power reclining and second captain seat 'Super Custom Limited' was added. Also, diesel turbo version was added to the grade 'Super Custom Sunroof & Moon Roof' and upper grade models.The headlamp of van, commuter and ambulance was replaced from round 2-lamp type to square 2-lamp. In May, 1-ton payload 'DYNA 100 (Y50 / 60) was added to DYNA truck models. There were 3 truck models such as Toyoace G15, HIACE, and DYNA, while the unique model code 'H80/90' was applied to HIACE. These models commonized the cabin with 2-ton DYNA 200 and Toyoace G25, but the components such as frame, suspension, differential and housing were more compact. Also, they had the standard square 2-lamp.
Aug. 1987
Minor change for wagon The different-shaped headlamps were applied (Custom and upper grade). Also, '4WD' was introduced most of 'Wagon Super Custom' wagons and vans. Laser 3Y engine was mounted to wagons and 2L diesel was for vans. The transmission was 5MT only. The van model has the same front fascia as the wagon and the highest grade model Super GL with luxury-looking interior was added.
1989
The production of 3rd generation HIACE was finished, but the model with 2.2L 4Y-EU petrol engine has been produced until 2007 in South Africa.
