As a rule of thumb, the lower the jumper cable gauge is, the stronger and the thicker it is.<\/p>\n<h3>Securing the Area<\/h3>\n<p>Since the idea is to transfer electric current from one car battery to another, electric shock is always on the table when it comes to jumpstarting a dead battery. Do not attach the negative clamp to the negative terminal of the discharged battery as this can ignite the gases of your battery. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<li>Turn on the ignition of the working vehicle. <\/li>\n<li>Wait a few seconds before starting the discharged vehicle. If it doesn\u2019t start, wait for a few seconds more as the ideal time frame in jumpstarting a battery depends on how long the vehicle hasn\u2019t been used. <\/li>\n<li>Once the vehicle starts working, disconnect the jumper cables in the reverse order.
